Gurkha Vintage Shaggy

This weekend I visited my local smoke shop looking for something new. I happened to stroll by the Gurkha aisle and noticed this fabulous looking smoke. The cigars were packed naked in a crate-like box surrounded by loose tobacco leaves. The smokes themselves were a deep brown color that had a non-clipped foot. Hence, the name Gurkha Vintage Shaggy.

The Gurkha Shaggy is constructed of 5-year aged Dominican fillers and binders. It is finished with a 8-year old Dominican wrapper. As stated, it has an uncut foot giving it a shaggy looking appearance. The smoke lit easily and maintained an even burn. The draw was effortless and held a good size ash. The Gurkha Shaggy is medium-bodied smoke with hints of leather and coffee. I fired up the toro size Shaggy which measures a standard 6 x 50.  A box of 25 runs about $120. For less than five bucks a stick, the Gurkha Vintage Shaggy is very worthy of a try. The total experience of buying and smoking it were far from disappointing. The appearance, the construction, the taste and the quality were consistent with the quality craftmanhsip that is expected from the Gurkha line of cigars. If your looking for something different, fire up the Gurkha Shaggy.

In summary, the smoke tasted great and required little effort to enjoy.

Gurkha Vintage Shaggy Toro is now available at CigarMonkey for $117 for box of 25.

Had this cigar last year at a cigar diner. Thought it was a solid smoke, med.body with a good burn. I would spend about $ 6 - $7 for this smoke. However, with California taxes the way they are, it would probably be $2 higher. Have not seen this cigar in any retail shops in the Los Angeles area. Least the ones I have visited.

This is one of my favorite Gurkha cigars. But I prefer the shorter non shaggy version which is called Prince. It has no band but also comes in a large container of 100 with the loose tobacco leaves. IMO the Prince size is Gurkha's attempt to break into the frenzy of RP Edge market.
