El Rey Del Mundo Olvidados
El Rey Del Mundo was one of my "go to" smokes in the early 1990's. They were always consistent, bold and well constructed. As time went by, my tastes changed and I slowly moved away from the El Rey Del Mundo line of smokes. I had forgotten all about them until I saw a box of El Rey Del Mundo Olvidados sitting on a self at Golden Leaf Tobacco in St. Paul, MN. The Olvidados looked so damn good I had to buy one. I needed a good size smoke because I was meeting Paul from Velvet Cigar. We were going to talk about the upcoming Midwest Cigar Summit and watch the Twins v. the White Sox game.
Ironically, the Olvidados is Spanish for "forgotten". It is also the perfect name for this cigar because I had forgotten about the high quality construction El Rey Del Mundo offers. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed their line of cigars. I had forgotten how wonderful they smoke. I had forgotten completely about El Rey Del Mundo. It is good to remember something special and that is exactly what the Olvidados Châteaux E did.
El Rey Del Mundo Olvidados Châteaux E is a toro size smoke measuring 6 x 52. It is constructed with a tri-country filler: Ligero from Nicaragua, Seco from the Dominican and Viso from Honduras. The binder is a Connecticut Broadleaf and is finished with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper. This blend of tobacco created a sweet delight with a woody flavor and hints of toffee. Unlike the traditional El Rey Del Mundo smokes, this was a pretty mild smoke. It was well balanced and beautifully constructed. It lit easily and maintained an even burn. I was able to get a three inch ash off this beauty before it fell onto my lap. It was the one and only time I had to ash, because I got to the nub and laid this beauty to rest. This effortless smoke was pretty damn good. El Rey Del Mundo Châteaux E comes in a box of 20 for around $165.
If you have not smoked an El Rey Del Mundo in awhile, fire up the "forgotten" and remember what you are missing.
